Dressage Update

Fantastic and sunny day on Sunday for the first Winter League dressage competition which was very well supported by Flint and Denbigh members who all rode really well and we had placings in all tests.

  • Walk Trot test was dominated by Flint and Denbigh members. 1st was Belle Hudson, 2nd Zoe James, 3rd Meelie Turner, 6th Ellie Philips and  8th Amber Beaumont.
  • The Grassroots test had 26 competitors forward. Ellie Higginson took 2nd Place and Poppy Miller came 5th in this very strong class.
  • Isobel Miller took the 2nd place spot in a good Novice class.
  • In the intermediate test Isobel Miller came 2nd and Summer Bellis close behind in 3rd with 2 beautifully ridden tests.
  • And Finally in the Open Amber Bellis took 3rd place with a well executed test.
  • The Flint & Denbigh team of Belle Hudson, Isobel Miller, Summer Bellis and Amber Bellis took the overall team win.

Well done to everyone who supported this event, you were all turned out beautifully and rode very well, please continue supporting these events over the coming months, there are individual and team prizes to be won at the end of the season.

International Exchange 2024

Area 5 Committee want to say ‘Well Done and Good Luck’ to Annabel James, Abigail Mulcaster, Oliver Loud, Freddie James, Harry Taylor and Rufus Taylor who have all made the shortlist for selection to compete for the UK team in the International Exchange next year. Ten boys and ten girls will be selected to form two boys’ and two girls’ teams.

The last time the International Exchange happened was in 2018 when Toby Johnson (EC) was one of 4 boys and 4 girls who competed in America. Covid restrictions meant there hasn’t been an exchange since then.

For 2024 teams from Australia, New Zealand and America will compete against teams from the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland). Ireland and UK are joint hosts. The overseas competitors bring themselves but not their ponies.

The International Exchange competition starts at the Irish Tetrathlon in Punchestown on 27 & 28 July. I’m told the Irish Tetrathlon is also open to Junior and Senior competitors from the UK.

The Exchange then moves to the Senior Regionals at Enniskillen on 3 & 4 Aug. Seniors who are selected for the Wales and Borders team will also compete here against the other regions. The Senior Regionals competition usually includes the Home International when Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland each form a team and compete against each other.

Finally the Exchange competitors move to the Tetrathlon Championships at Offchurch Bury around 10 & 11 Aug. These Championships are also for all Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitors who have qualified at their Area competitions.

A lot of our Juniors and Seniors will get the chance to see the International Exchange teams in action. I’m not sure how the riding will work as it is usual for the Exchange to do show jumping and the visitors will need to borrow ponies, but it will be an exciting competition.
