Huge thanks to Patrick Sells who riveted the audience at our 2012 AGM with his sometimes harrowing yet uplifting talk.

Patrick talked about the three African charities he has worked with over the past couple of years in Morocco, the Gambia and how the effort of the veterinary charity, Animal Care in Egypt (ACE) is helping to improve the life of working equines in Egypt.

Patrick talked about some horrific stories of animal mistreatment, not through intent but rather lack of education. You can watch Patrick’s trip from north Morocco to the Gambia here.

Patrick described many types of injuries, some caused by owners using sticks embedded with nails, resulting in massive abscesses, tropical diseases and many other distressing conditions. You can watch Patrick’s work in the Horse and Donkey Association Gambia here.

Patrick concluded his talk with an in depth look at how in Egypt, massive suffering is caused to donkeys by ill fitting harnesses  when used as draft animals. ACE has set up a special project aimed at eliminating this suffering by employing local labour and using local materials to make cheap yet effective humane and well fitting draft harnesses.

£312 was raised during the AGM towards for this very important cause. Below is the link to find out more and to make further donations.
