Winter League Show Jumping Report

Wonderful weather was the order of the day for the first Winter League show jumping competition of the 2011/12 season held at Somerford Park and hosted by the very efficient East Cheshire branch. Huge thanks to Mr Geoff Bell for kindly accommodating our usual bunch of late and changed entries right up to the day before with his usual cheerful approach!!

We had a few first timers join our teams at this competition and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and are looking forward to the next time.

Class 1 was keenly fought and in the end came down to time with loads of clear rounds our Smarties WL team came 5th overall with Megan Woodcock 1st and Beatrice Blockley 4th individually.

Class 2 F&D Winter League Team were 4th and the Chocolate Limes came in 5th with Megan Goodey having an individual 2nd place.

Class 3 was again a huge class but a superb team effort brought about a win for the F & D Barley Sugars and with Georgia Cabb individually 3rd.

Class 4 was in the balance until our very last round but they pulled it off winning the open with Brier Leahy individually 2nd .

Our next competition is next Sunday at Bryn Derw so if you want to go I hope you have already sent me your cheque. After that is the Sir WWW at Southview, again cheques to me now please. I have attached a couple of photos which have been sent to me and if you have any more of this or future competitions please send them in to Fred.

Many thanks … Chris Leahy

Re – Dressage to Music

At the PC Champs there is a dressage to music class which is open to anyone. At Maelor we are running Dressage to Music clinics with Jenny Johnson, assisting riders in putting together dressage floor plans and music bespoke to riders horses. There is another clinic on Sunday 30th – Monday 31st October. The clinic starts after the Dengie dressage.

If you could publicise this to members that would be great – some may decide to stay after the comp to take part. More information is found on the website //www.maelorec.co.uk/dtm.html

Charity Appeal

Hi Iona

I would really appreciate it if you could add the following request from a friend of mine to your newsletter – I know it is not pony related in anyway, but it is an extremely good cause! These
friends of mine have set up their own charity and are trying to make a sustainable difference in Gambia. Thanks Sheridan

“I run a primary school called Ysgol Amdallai which was built with 3 friends in the Gambia and we have supported it for the past 6 years. We have now done everything we can there, it is extremely well resourced, and we have passed it into the hands of the community to run alongside the Gambian Government. The government wanted to share the good practice we have put in place with our teacher training and resourcing, so they have liaised with us to transfer the head teacher to a new school, and we want to support him there. He just sent me a load of photographs of his new school and I must say I was a little taken aback – there is a lot to do with the building as well as training staff and resourcing the school!

I need to contact as many people as possible with children, particularly primary school age, as we are going to send a shipment of resources over, and we need unwanted children’s books, stationery etc, anything you have laying around in your rooms that they have grown out of and no longer need, educational or play related. It would be great if people could also enquire at their local Primary school as a number of these have been extremely helpful in the past.

My friends and I live across Flintshire and Denbighshire and can therefore arrange to collect any items (obviously if you were able to collate a few people’s donations together that would be even better). Apparently there are only two text books
to share amongst over 200 children, and there is a not a sheet of paper or a pen in the place, as the old head teacher was given a block of large card and some markers about 4 years ago by a German charity and she had made it last as long as she could. Unbelievable!!

I plan to send the shipment in November, but I need to book it in at the end of October – if you are doing a pre-Christmas clear out, or know of friends who could do with getting rid of stuff, I would be very grateful to receive it, to take it to the shipment.

Any help you could give would be most appreciated – Thank you!”

If anyone is able to help with donations I can arrange collections if you email me at waleshomecymru@googlemail.com

Many thanks, Sheridan.
