Polocrosse – Date for the diary

The Pony Club Polocrosse Arena Challenge will once again be held on the super arena at Dallas Burston Polo Club on 30th and 31st March 2019. There will be more information to come but for those just starting out it is a very beginner-friendly tournament, and for those old hands it will probably be one of the final chances to impress the selectors before the 2019 Home Nations teams are announced (also with more info to come!).

Dressage Tests 2019

The PC Dressage Committee have listened to feedback regarding some of our tests and done some re-writes. Therefore in 2019 there will be a new Novice Dressage Test and a new Open Dressage Test to be used at the summer Area Competitions. Save the Date – Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse – education and careers event for Pony Club Members, Tuesday 30th October 2018

Following a highly successful pilot scheme The Pony Club and Racing to School are continuing to work together on Racing to School’s Riders’ Programme. We are pleased to be able to again offer FREE workshops for Pony Club Members aged 12 years and over during 2018.

The programme is designed to encourage those who already ride and/or have an interest in other equine spheres to further develop their interest in horseracing and consider horseracing as a potential career path or pastime.

The workshops provide fun and informative activities, aimed at increasing knowledge and understanding of horseracing. In addition to sharing their own racing background, throughout the morning, the Racing to School team will take Pony Club Members (and parents) behind the scenes of the racecourse. Gaining access to areas normally restricted; from the inner sanctum of the Weighing Room, to the Stable entrance and Racecourse itself there will be opportunities for a possible meet and greet with a Jockey, to hear first-hand from the Racecourse Management team, Ground staff and the Equine Welfare & Integrity Officers. All this before the thrills and excitement of a full afternoon’s racing!

For those young people hoping to combine their love of horses with a future career, the team will also be able to advise and provide details on how to access the vast range of career choices the horseracing and thoroughbred breeding industries have to offer.

Recent feedback from attendees:

“The whole day was excellent from going behind the scenes, meeting a trainer, clerk of the course and the champion jockey! The team were knowledgeable and friendly, a great day.”

“The day has intrigued me, and made me interested in horseracing.”

“I thought today opened my eyes to the career opportunities inside racing so thank you very much. I would never have considered it before (today.) It was a great afternoon and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

“I love the speed and the excitement!”

“Thanks to this experience I now know that there are many more opportunities than being a trainer, jockey, or owner.”
