Well done to our Class 1 riders on Sunday at Cheshire Hunt South Winter League competition held at Southview. Iri, Cari and Nansi rode really well but unfortunately no team placing this time. Well done to Nansi for coming individual 6th. Eben was our only rider in Class 2 and had a lovely double clear and was placed individual 5th. Iri also rode in the Dengie qualifier but had one pole down on what was proving to be a tricky course for most riders.

Here are the results so far:

Two more competitions to go: Waen y Llyn at Northop on 25th February and Cheshire Hunt North on 3rd March: Schedule are attached so please send your entries to Bethan as soon as possible: 29 Stryd y Brython, Ruthin, Denbighshire, LL15 1JA.

Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse – education and careers event for Pony Club Members

Following a highly successful pilot scheme The Pony Club and Racing to School are continuing to work together on Racing to School’s Riders’ Programme. We are pleased to be able to again offer FREE workshops for Pony Club Members aged 12 years and over this coming half term break, and during other school holidays in 2018.

We will be running a Riders’ Programme Event – the Flint and Denbigh Point-to-Point – at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse on Sunday 11th March 2018.

The programme is designed to encourage those who already ride and/or have an interest in another equine sphere to further develop their interest in horse sport, and consider horse racing as a potential career path or pastime.

The workshops provide fun and informative activities, aimed at increasing knowledge and understanding of horse racing. In addition to sharing their own racing background, throughout the morning, the Racing to School team will take Pony Club Members (and parents) behind the scenes of the racecourse. Gaining access to areas normally restricted; from the inner sanctum of the Weighing Room, to the Stable entrance and Racecourse itself there will be opportunities for a possible meet and greet with a Jockey, to hear first-hand from the Racecourse Management team, Ground staff and the Equine Welfare & Integrity Officers. All this before the thrills and excitement of a full afternoon’s racing!

For those young people hoping to combine their love of horses with a future career, the team will also be able to advise and provide details on how to access the vast range of career choices the horse racing and thoroughbred breeding industries have to offer.

Spaces are limited to a maximum of 20, so will be offered on a first come first served basis. Parents are welcome to join their child(ren) for the activities if they wish.
