The last triathlon of the Area 5 Winter series saw seven Flint & Denbigh members head off to Alsager to compete in a 65 strong field. As this was a qualifier for the National Championships in Milton Keynes for the Mini, Junior & Senior classes, there was lots at stake and entries from several other Areas in addition to Area 5. Mia & Neisha Roberts had already qualified for the Nationals in a previous competition, so could any other F&Ds join them?
Despite being poorly all week,
- Leah Lamb performed brilliantly in the Pre-Mini girls creating a big lead in the ‘shoot’ (best shoot) and finishing over 200 points ahead of the rest of the class in 1st place.
- Orla Kissane, our youngest F&D triathlete, finished in a creditable 5th place.
The Mini girls (8-12 yrs) were not subdivided as this was a qualifier, so our younger girls did really well to come
- 12th (Imogen Kissane) &
- 14th (Scarlett Owen) out of 19 entries.
Big congratulations go to
- Orlagh Toner though for coming 2nd in this class and securing her qualification for Championships!
- Mia Roberts once again left the field standing in the Junior girls run scoring 385 more points than anyone else in her class and finishing overall in 1st place.
Finally, a solid performance by
- Ben Read in the Senior Boys saw him gain equal best shoot and a big PB in his swim, securing 2nd place overall and another F&D qualification for the Champs!
The F&D Team comprising Mia, Orlagh, Scarlett & Imogen were 6th out of the 18 teams. Well done to everyone who competed, and best of luck to Mia, Neisha, Orlagh & Ben at Milton Keynes on 15th March!
Best wishes
Penny
