Ellie Richardson doing her pra/PC intro to racing badge at aintree racecourse 30/10/2014

Thanks to Rachel Evans for providing photos of the Mounted Games Zone competition back in July – reminding us of better weather and longer days! As always, please feel free to email photos from training, fun days and competitions to Fred to put on the website (webmaster@fndponyclub.org.uk) or to Fran to put on the weekly news (newsletters@fndponyclub.org.uk)

Bonfire Night is very nearly upon us and although it’s fun for people, here’s some tips to help your horse cope with nearby fireworks displays.

Tidying up after rallies and events

Please could parents of members attending rallies and training sessions:

  • Ensure that all droppings are picked up from the indoor arenas and parking areas
  • Help put poles up during the training session and help put away the show jumps at the end of the evening

If everyone helps it does mean that instructors & organisers get home earlier.

Thank you, Bethan

Our Own Indoor School for Competitions and Rallies

Flint & Denbigh Pony Club will be 70 years old in 2017. Wouldn’t it be great if we could celebrate by having our own Indoor School?

I would like to hear from anyone who thinks this is a good idea (or not) and also anyone who would be willing to help get this idea up and running. We have tried several grant applications and not been successful: apparently Horse Riding is not a sport! We have the promise of a 25 year lease to put a school on ground just outside of Denbigh, on the main Denbigh to Ruthin road, so good access.

It would take a lot of fund raising, but we have 275 members, and if each member was to raise £100 we would have a really good start. This could be through a sponsored walk, ride, swim, or selling cakes at rallies, or selling unwanted items at  car boot sales, or getting together and running a coffee morning or Bingo night – anything really!!!

Another way to bring the cost down would be to do all the ground works ourselves and to buy a school in “kit form” so that we have a working party to build it. Do we have any parents with the skills and machinery to help with this? Maybe someone knows of second hand sheds that may be of use and cheaper?

I would really appreciate any feedback from parents and members on this idea.

Many Thanks, Iona Pierce (garethion@hotmail.com)
