Winter League Class 2 winning team (one place above the Welsh team on the TV behind them!)

It’s always great to see and hear about what our members get up to, so please email photos from training, fun days and competitions to Fred to put on the website (webmaster@fndponyclub.org.uk). You can also email photos and reports to Fran to put on the weekly news (newsletters@fndponyclub.org.uk).

Thank you Rachel Evans for providing more photos from Mounted Games this summer: Training in Fran’s field, Area Seniors and the Royal Welsh. And thank you Beth Evans for the photos of the fun day at Plas Dolben.

Our Own Indoor School for Competitions and Rallies

Flint & Denbigh Pony Club will be 70 years old in 2017. Wouldn’t it be great if we could celebrate by having our own Indoor School?

Iona would like to hear from anyone who thinks this is a good idea (or not) and also anyone who would be willing to help get this idea up and running (garethion@hotmail.com). She needs to know who to contact when she calls a meeting to get it off the ground.

We have tried several grant applications and not been successful: apparently Horse Riding is not a sport! We have the promise of a 25 year lease to put a school on ground just outside of Denbigh, on the main Denbigh to Ruthin road, so good access.

It would take a lot of fundraising, but we have 275 members, and if each member was to raise £100 we would have a really good start. This could be through a sponsored walk, ride, swim, or selling cakes at rallies, or selling unwanted items at  car boot sales, or getting together and running a coffee morning or Bingo night – anything really!!!

Another way to bring the cost down would be to do all the groundworks ourselves and to buy a school in “kit form” so that we have a working party to build it. Do we have any parents with the skills and machinery to help with this? Maybe someone knows of second hand sheds that may be of use and cheaper?

Rally (Llandyrnog District)

Winter League Show Jumping

Class 1 had a very early start on Saturday, with the Winter League Show Jumping Course Walk at Southview at 8am!! Having had a few riders pull out last minute we only had the Winter League team, who all rode well, and they all had 4 faults in either round 1 or 2. Leah Jones on Koda Dakota, Twm Cernyw on Tululah, Ophelia Godbeford-Orton  and Orlagh Toner on Lucky Charm are all improving at every competition, and they gained a well deserved team 3rd for Flint & Denbigh (photo below).

Class 2, and 4 hours of competing with 15 teams in the competition… Once again the Flint & Denbigh team of Sali Wyn-Wheway & Toosie, Lois Williams & Jim, Jac Cernyw & Gorgeous George and Tegan Houston & Solitaire rode safely and correctly, speeding up for the 2nd round, and for the third consecutive time came  home with 1st placings for Flint & Denbigh. Sali & Toosie on a double clear also gained individual 5th, with Jac and Tegan not far behind. Zarah Bennet & Lola also rode well in their first competition.

The Flint & Denbigh team in Class 3 of Georgia Jones & Simba, Ffion Thomas & Concer, Megan Allmand, & Luci Roberts & Alfie came home with team 4th, and in Class 4 Becky Sedcole and Ben Read on Dougal were in a mixed team, and gained 2nd place.

Thank you once again to Mal Toner for his correct scoring in Class 1, and to Alwyn and Ceri for keeping scores in Class 2.

The next competition is Dwyfor at Bryn Derw on Saturday 22nd November. If you would like to compete, please send cheques for £12 made payable to Flint & Denbigh Hunt Branch of the Pony Club to Aloma Wyn-Wheway, Penanner, Ffordd Abergele, Betws yn Rhos LL22 8AF (johnaloma@tiscali.co.uk).
