Llandyrnog Hunter Trials and Tetrathlon

Thank you to every one who supported this competition last week end. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves, everyone was smartly turned out and the sun was shining, making it a lovely weekend.

A big thank you goes to all who gave up their time to help run this competition. These competitions could not run without volunteers. So thank you to all who helped set up, clear away, fence judge, steward, lane walk, score and hand out numbers etc, it would not happen without you.

Message from the Flint & Denbigh Hunt

Our branch of the Pony Club has always had a good relationship with the Flint and Denbigh Hunt allowing us to have at least one pony club meet during the hunting season. We were approached by the Masters of the Flint and Denbigh Hunt to encourage more of our members to join the hunting field and certainly did not want to put our members off coming hunting.

Everyone is welcome, if you are under 13 you will need a mounted guardian. All those over that age we have been encouraging for several years now, to take part in the Hunting Certificate, which allows you to hunt without a mounted guardian. We have previously stated that you have to be 14 years old by 1st September, but we have decided that we can now lower the age to 13 (by 1st September).

For the Hunting Certificate the pony club member will be asked to attend at least 3 mornings autumn hunting, (now till the end of October) and then come as much as possible from the opening meet till the end of the season. (End of October to 1st week in March).

The pony club has a booklet of terms and some bits to learn which we give to everyone taking the certificate. We then hold a verbal/written test towards the end of the season. We do ask that you are committed to taking part, some members have failed the first year, sometimes just through lack of attendance, or maybe their pony hasn’t been suited to hunting. We have to ensure that each pony club member, if put into a tricky situation whilst out hunting can cope and understand the reasons why they have to behave in a certain manner, and to be safe at all times.

We have found over the years that the members that have taken part have flourished in confidence. Not only with their riding but also in themselves as they converse with people of all ages and abilities, had masses of fun and made new friends whilst out hunting. It is a great community to be a part of with all sorts of fund raising events to come along to throughout the year.

We understand that each pc member has lots of commitments with school and other pc activities at weekends, but the reason we ask to see you 3 autumn hunting mornings and as much as possible through the rest of the season, is for us to make sure you are coping, safe and happy. It’s also much easier to pass the certificate if you regularly attend.

Please speak to Lucy Reed on 07850 593168, Louise Shepherd 07780 971681 or Bethan for any further information.
