We’ll never forget the summer of 2012. Not only did the GB equestrian teams win team gold at Show Jumping and Dressage and silver in Horse Trials, but the Flint and Denbigh Hunt Branch had 5 teams competing at the Pony Club Championships at Cholmodeley Castle.

The Junior Games team which had been trained by Gwil and Francesca Hughes competed on the first day. They were well turned out and were a credit to our Branch. Lois Williams, Jac Cernyw, Heledd Roberts, Sophie and Eden Greaves have put many hours into practising the games.

The Intermediate Dressage team – Jody Nettleton, Sian Golding, Phoebie Woodbine and Rhiannon Johnson also competed on first day. Jody was 5th individually in her section.

Open dressage team – Ollie and Ellie Williams, Laura Cocking and Sian Bryant competed on the Friday and although unplaced, all performed good tests.
Ollie Williams had been the highest placed Flint and Denbigh member at the Area competition so was awarded the Louise Williams Trophy.

Sophie Toogood had qualified for the 3rd year for the individual Show Jumping. The competition was of a very high standard. Sophie came away 4th for the 3rd year running.

The Show Jumping team were up very early on Saturday morning as they were first team in at 8.15am. Mari Edwards, Louise Jones and Lois Roberts carried 8 faults through from the first round. As they were only fielding a team of three they were relying on all three scores and unfortunately had a disappointing second round. However they were 6th in the turnout competition and all rode very well.

The Horse Trials team – Sophie Toogood, Sam Ecroyd, Lucy Grindal and Stephanie Hughes competed over a very technical and well built course. The course proved a challenge and caused quite a few to problems for many competitors, but the Flint and Denbigh team had been well prepared by their trainer, Louise. They were well turned out and they rode extremely well. All four jumped the fence that I was at, beautifully and all four completed the course. The team finished a commendable 9th. Lucy Grindal was 8th individually in her section.

Jessica Abrahams competed in the Warwick Polocrosse team who finished 5th in their competition.

We have been lucky to have the championships on our doorstep at such a scenic venue. Hopefully they will be held there again next year.

I was very proud to say that I was DC of the Flint and Denbigh and enjoyed watching you all compete. I would also like to thank the team trainers for preparing the members for the area competitions and championships.

Training in all disciplines is ongoing and everyone is welcomed to attend.

Thanks …. Bethan DC

We had a lovely day yesterday at the PC championships.  The open SJ team result could have been better, but it was a great experience just to be there.  Cholomondely Castle was a beautiful setting, and we saw some fabulous horses and very talented young riders.  Compliments to all involved in organising such a well run event.

Thanks also to everyone at the F&D for their support and making these opportunities possible.  The open SJ team may not have been very succesful, but certainly came away with some happy memories.

Thanks … Gwyneth Edwards
