Polocrosse World Cup Event

The Polocrosse 2011 World Cup will be held in the United Kingdom at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre, near Rugby in Warwickshire.  Olivia Miller is arranging a coach trip to the Polocrosse World Cup on Sunday 17th July. This should work out at about £12 per head plus the approx. £12 entry into the World Cup event. For more information on the whole event please visit: www.polocrosse2011.com

Please email Olivia Miller  oli-hoover@hotmail.co.uk asap if you are interested in joining them.

Bus will leave early morning (about 7am) and return late evening (about 10pm) on Sunday 17th July. Cannot confirm times until I know how many people will come.

Sunday is the finals day, the most exciting day of the event! It includes the Polocrosse World Cup Final, The International Challenge Final, The International Pony Club Polocrosse Final and the Play off for 3rd and 4th in the World Cup.

May I make a request with regard to encouraging a group of supporters to get to this amazing event in view of the fact that we have one of Flint and Denbigh members playing in the Pony Club competition and one of our long term mentors and trainers Sarah Simkin actually playing and captaining the main team.

The event will be not just Polocrosse but feature equestrian demonstrations. It should also be possible to meet players and see behind the scenes of this international event something I will look at setting up if we get the support. Alongside the main attraction there will be displays and demos from other equestrian disciplines and various other acts, along with a shopping village of trade stands, food stands, a fully licensed bar and corporate hospitality marquees.

If the main final day is clashing we could look at another day of play it is on from the 10th July.

On another note I was very pleased to hear that another of our Pony Club members has made the Junior Squad this year and will be going to Australia – Ceri Williams.

I think that Flint and Denbigh can be proud to have such a long history now of success in this sport.  I doubt we could look at another discipline where we have such a large number of players reaching International level of competition … Jeanette

Congratulations and Well Done …

  • … to Ceri Williams for her success in being chosen as one of the Polocrosse Junior Squad to compete in Australia this year.
  • … also to Rebeca Owen for achieving her Gold Award for 21 Achievement Badges.
  • … two of the F & D members who competed in the Inter schools competition at Southview last Sunday, Robyn Cannell and Georgia Jones were in the Winning Team in the 80 cm SJ competition.  They beat 11 teams from the North West.  They have now qualified for the Championships in Adlington, Bucks in October.  At the Cheshire Hunt North ODE at Smallwood on Saturday Robyn Cannell did her 1st ODE and out of her class of 20, she came 6th in the Dressage and 5th Overall. Seren Parry came 4th in her class, Anna Thomas came 4th in her Dressage, and Ellie Fricker came 2nd in her Dressage and 2nd in her class. They all did really well and made sure that the FnD made their presence felt!

Well Done to you all.

Note to Parents re 27th June …

This is an evening for parents only.

  • The members do not need to attend.
  • If you have no alternative and the children have to accompany you, please leave them outside on camp field with the older members in charge of games etc.
  • It is the parents who need to be inside the village hall to hear all the Information regarding camp.
  • In previous years the hall has been quite full but mainly children and that means that a lot of parents are standing outside and unable to hear the DC’s talk … So please can you respect this request.
  • If they do need to come along to try a sweatshirt or jacket they can come inside once the Camp Information talk has finished.

Thank you

Stabling

Bethan has a lot of requests for stabling this year.

  • Are you sure a stable is really necessary??
  • If you do not want your pony turned out in the field with the the others you may consider a Pen.
  • You will need to bring your own electric fence to make a safe area for your pony to be kept in over night.
  • All the pens are made in the same area of camp field, so the ponies have company but are still able to have their own safe space for grazing.
  • Ponies are quite happy with the “penning” system and it has worked very well for a number of years.

Fundraising Badge

  • All members attending Main Camp will be asked to develop & plan a task to work towards a Fundraising Badge.
  • You will work in your Rides to decide on, arrange and organize a way of raising money, either by a side show (tombola or a game), raffle, stall, entertainment of some sort, music, dancing, short sketch etc.
  • This event will be held on the last afternoon of camp and all the money will be given towards the Animal Health Trust which is the Pony Club Charity this year.
  • You need to start asking family, friends, neighbours, local businesses etc for prizes, cakes (put in deep freeze until needed), 2nd hand tack, riding wear or start making items yourselves, any thing you think may help raise money.
  • The items can be brought to camp on the first day or during the week.
  • The Ride showing the most effort and working together with their chosen Project Manager (like the Apprentice) will all receive a prize .
  • Pony Club Branches and Centres, across the UK, are being asked to pledge their support online for the Animal Health Trust’s Pony Power campaign.
  • 2011 is the second year the Animal Health Trust (AHT) has been The Pony Club’s charity of the year. Both charities hope that by the end of this year £100,000 will have been raised for the AHT’s vital work which improves the lives of countless horses, dogs and cats.
  • The AHT, based in Suffolk, treats more than 3,000 horses, cats and dogs each year through its clinics. Its scientific programmes also benefit thousands of animals.

Peter Webbon, Chief Executive of the AHT, said: “In 2010 the Pony Power campaign raised £40,000 and, by the end of this year, we’re hoping to increase that to £100,000. We’re asking every Pony Club Branch and Centre to pledge to raise £100 for our work. Everyone who pledges will see their Branch or Centre name appear on our online Puissance Wall!”

Pony Club Members are asked to visit the Pony Power website (www.ponypower.org.uk) anytime during May and June to make their pledge via a simple online form. Names of Branches and Centres who pledge will be added to the Puissance Wall on the website regularly.

If Pony Club Members raise £100,000, the AHT will name a dedicated equine laboratory on its site after The Pony Club. The names of all Branches and Centres that have contributed to the Pony Power campaign in 2010 and 2011 will be commemorated on the wall of The Pony Club Laboratory.

Judy Edwards, The Pony Club Chief Executive, said: “This is such a wonderful opportunity for The Pony Club to be forever linked to the amazing work of the Animal Health Trust. We were all delighted with the outcome of last year’s campaign which resulted from so many innovative fundraising ideas from our Branches and Centres across the country.

“We now hope to see every Branch and Centre name added to the fast growing puissance wall and subsequently honoured by inclusion on the commemorative wall of the new laboratory.” As an added incentive, every Pony Club Branch or Centre who meets, or exceeds, the £100 target will be entered into a draw to win an exclusive eventing clinic with top UK eventer Lucy Wiegersma and cross-country course designer Eric Winter.

In 2010 the equivalent prize, a dressage clinic with WEG triple silver medalist Laura Bechtolsheimer, was won by The Pony Club’s Burghley branch.

Peter added: “Last year we were able to let a lot of Pony Club Members know how important what we do, behind the scenes, is for their horses and ponies. This year we want to reinforce this message in the hope that even more Members will raise money for our work so we can continue to ensure that their horses and ponies remain happy and healthy.”

Hat Rule …

Please check your hat. We will not be able to Tag your hat for camp unless it is up to Pony Club Standard.

The Pony Club Hat Rule  … It is mandatory for all Members to wear a protective helmet manufactured to one of the minimum standards listed below. It must bear the CE mark and a quality symbol, either the BSI Kitemark, the SAI Global symbol or the official Snell label with number. The CE symbol on its own is not sufficient to ensure consistent standard of manufacture. The PAS 015:1998 and the Snell E2001 meet higher impact criteria and therefore give more protection.

For cross-country riding (over fences 0.80m high and above), including Eventing, Tetrathlon, Horse Trials and Pony Racing, whether it be tests, rallies or training, a jockey skull cap, with no fixed peak, must be worn. It is also strongly recommended that a jockey skull cap is worn for cross country riding even over lower fences. PAS 015:1998 or

EN 1384:1996

BS EN 1384:1997

With the BSI Kitemark

Snell E2001 with the official Snell label and number AS/NZS 3838 1998 or

AS/NZS 3838 2003

NB The prefix ‘BS’ on the

EN 1384 standard does not mean that the hat has undergone batch testing by the British Standards Institute – the hat must contain the BSI Kitemark as well.
