Polocrosse

Katie Davies has represented Area 5 at the last 3 Pony Club Championships and was luck enough to represent Wales at Home Internationals this year.  Area 5 would very much like to increase the numbers at The Pony Club 2018 Championships and so if anyone from Flint & Denbigh is interested in having a go, please contact Rachel Davies (rachel.davies1979@yahoo.co.uk).  There are various categories: minis (under 13 and pony under 13.2 hands), then novice, intermediate, open juniors (over 13.2 and under 16 years of age).  There are also age groups for over 16 and under 25 years. If there is enough interest Rachel will arrange some indoor ball and stick sessions at a local sports centre (we can hire a badminton court!) and some taster sessions on a pony over the winter, with polocrosse trainers.

Hunting Certificate

Anyone interested in doing their Hunt Certificate please contact Louise Shepherd (07780 971681). You need to be 14 years or over, be able to come Autumn Hunting at least three times and attend meets throughout the season.

Mold Triathlon

Here are the schedule and entry form for the first of the Trio of Tetrathlons. Remember that points scored at each event will be added up to give overall winners across the winter. There will also be rewards for those who complete all three, even if they don’t have winning scores.

The other dates are Sunday 28th January 2018 in Mold and Sunday 18th February at Ellesmere College (subject to confirmation).

The senior boys’ competition is preparation for the Winter Triathlon Championships so the swim is 4mins and the run is 2000m, which is a combination of intermediate and open.

The swimming pool will not allow anyone into the deep end with arm bands or other buoyancy aids. All competitors must be able to swim unaided, even in the deep end, but we can put less confident swimmers in the side lanes so they are near the walls.

If any competitors have never had any shoot training and competition briefing please let Penny know so that she can arrange suitable instruction (Area5Tetrathlon@outlook.com).

Donation to Wales Air Ambulance

Flint & Denbigh donated £50 to Wales Air Ambulance from the money raised at Camp from tea and coffee.

What is QIPCO British Champions Day and what does the day involve?

QIPCO British Champions Day is Flat racing’s big finale and Britain’s richest race day. It is also a chance for members of the Pony Club to learn more about the exciting equestrian sport of horseracing, earn their ‘Horseracing Certificate’ and ‘Intro to Pony Racing’ badge, and enjoy a fun afternoon out with friends from the Pony Club and beyond.

Starting from 10:30am you will have the chance to:

  • Enjoy a tour of the racecourse before racing, including a visit to the weighing room and paddock.
  • Put on some racing silks and learn to ride like a jockey with a bitesize lesson from a jockey coach.
  • Try out your new skills on the British Racing School’s electrical racing simulator.
  • Get up close to an ex-racehorse and a racing pony.
  • Learn about the thoroughbred breed thanks to a painted horse demonstration.
  • Find out about racing tack and jockeys’ equipment.
  • Discover the huge inflatable Winning Post.
  • Take part in competitions to win exciting prizes.
  • Meet Clare Balding, who will be signing copies of her new book, ‘The Racehorse Who Disappeared’.

‘The Fan Zone’ will be jam-packed full of fun activities (several of them new!) and competitions for you to take part in throughout the afternoon, as well as providing a base from which you can enjoy the racing. Furthermore, you will be able to learn all about the ways that you can get involved in horseracing in the future.

You will also receive a QIPCO British Champions Day goody bag full of exciting treats.
