Photo (From the Pony Club’s Facebook Page): This is Lucy from the Flint & Denbigh Hunt who won the 2014 Open Horsemanship Bursary and has just completed a week of tuition with Jane Holderness-Roddam. Lucy said: “I had a fabulous time and couldn’t have wished for a better experience. Everyone on the yard was so encouraging and helpful as well as having a fantastic sense of humour making the week fly by! Jane was so accommodating and gave me so much experience in such a short space of time.” Lucy would like to thank The Pony Club for the opportunity and Jane for giving up her time to help her develop as a rider. She said she will treasure the memories for a very long time and the experience she gained will be with her for life.

Update from your DC

It’s back to school time and time to give the ponies and parents a bit of a well earned rest after a very busy summer. At last I have some spare time to reflect on the summer holidays, the Branch has had a very successful season. I would like also to take this opportunity to thank all the parents that have helped out at all the different pony club fixtures held throughout the summer. Camp seems a long time ago but was very successful and I hope that you all had a good time. Campers were given excellent instruction and were able to experience a variety of disciplines with their ponies. Evening fun entertainment was organised by each district of our Branch – team building challenges, archery, polocrosse, to name a few.

The Flint & Denbigh Branch were well represented at the Championships and were on the podium several times. Thank you to Ben Read, Steph Parsley, Zara Bennet, Maddy Issacs & Louise Evans for volunteering to help. The competitions would not run without the volunteers.

Congratulations also to Ben for being chosen to represent Wales & Borders at the Tetrathlon Championships and also for doing so well at the Pony Club Tetrathlon Championships.

Congratulations to Olivia Miller on getting her B test riding. She now has the both parts.

The fixtures for the Autumn will be out very soon.

Mounted Games End of Season Party

To all Mounted Games participants, this year’s end of season party will be held at Pydew Farm/Lloc Showfield on Saturday 19th September, from 6pm, by kind permission of the Williams family. Please bring a donation of food and drink, chairs and tables – music/gazebo/tableware will be provided. If any families wish to stay over, lorries will be able to stay overnight on the field.

As it was Lottie and Joe’s final year, they’ve decided they would like a ‘world cafe’ idea with wallpaper and pens for everyone to share their thoughts, thanks, memories, etc.

Names and numbers to Tina/Linda via email please (tinakowen@btinternet.com or linda@pydewfarm.fsnet.co.uk). There will be an option for people to contribute to gifts on the night (see Tina/Linda).

Winter League Show Jumping

The Winter League competitions will start in a few weeks, and anyone interested or wanting to know anything about them should contact Aloma as soon as possible if they want to be considered for a team. Aloma will not take any entries after the date posted on the Weekly News.

All teams in class 1, 2, 3 and 4 will need adult help with scoring, taking photos, and writing a note for the weekly. Please contact Aloma (johnaloma@tiscali.co.uk) if you can volunteer any of the above, or there will be no write ups on the weekly which is a shame for the kids and the weekly news!

Dates so far:

Area 5 Winter League Rules (as amended) also attached for ease of reference (Winter League Show Jumping Rules – May 2014 amendment – Approved 2).

  1. For clarification, Rule 6.2 of the Area 5 Winter League rules  (A horse or pony may only be ridden in one class at any one competition and by a single rider) does NOT apply to Class 4 (The Dengie Qualifier) or Class 6 (Advanced) since neither form part of the Area 5 WL competition – see Rule 7.4.
  2. In the first round the whole team will jump in succession. In the second round the team members will jump one at a time, one from each team, in the order they jumped in the first round sequentially – rule 7.7 & 7.9.2.
  3. Class 6 will be Two-phase – first phase 7 to 9 obstacles not against the clock with a time allowed; clear rounds continue straight  onto the second phase without a bell being rung. Second phase 4 to 6 obstacles and timed. Competitors placed on faults and time.
  4. The competition will take place on a prepared surface.
