Report from the Atherstone and North Warwickshire Friendly Mounted Games Competitions

The Atherstone friendly was on 28th and North Warwickshire was on 29th March and we had one senior and one junior team competing at each competition.

The senior team had an eventful week-end.  One of the team members missed the competition on Saturday, because of lorry problems, which meant that the remainder of the team,  Joe Owen, Heledd Roberts, Sophie and Eden Greaves , had to ride in every race.  Heledd’s pony is new to games, and got a bit excited to say the least,  Heledd rode really well and the rest of the team really supported her, not doing fast changeovers, taking time when riding in pairs etc etc,  making it a very good first competition for this novice pony.  On this occasion the result doesn’t matter, their actions just showed what real teamwork is, and Arwyn is a very proud trainer.

The junior team of Twm Cernyw, Jacob Edghill, Ellie Richardson, Alex Owen and Katie Davies have  started the season  really well.  On Saturday, they all rode very well in the heats, securing a place in the A final, and then finished the competition in 3rd place.

On Sunday, the North Warwickshire competition took place at Stoneleigh. Transport problems had been solved and so the senior team also included Charlotte Williams, although this time, the weather tried it’s very best to spoil the day. It was wet during the morning, when the seniors were competing, but in the afternoon, when it was the juniors turn to compete, as well as rain, there were gale force winds; at one time, all of the bending poles blew down one by one, like a row of dominoes.  With lots of helpers in the arena putting up equipment when it blew down, the junior competition also took place, but they were all soaking wet, with very cold hands.

Both the senior and junior teams rode very well – both taking 6th place in their respective competition against some very strong teams. Many thanks to Tina Owen and Rachel Davies, who help to train the Junior Teams.

A very good start to the season, now looking forward to next week-end’s friendly at Somerford.
