Mounted Games Welsh Trials

On Friday 20th February, 5 riders from Flint & Denbigh (Charlotte Williams, Joe Owen, Lois Williams and Sophie and Eden Greaves) were chosen to trial at Netley Hall for the Welsh Mounted Games Team to compete at Windsor and other international competitions. The trial was outdoors, and was very cold. There were 28 riders from all over Wales, and the standard was extremely high this year. All of the Flint & Denbigh riders rode really well, a credit to the branch. After a very long trial, the five riders for the Welsh team were chosen.

We were all very excited that amongst them was Eden Greaves and her pony Skippy. The other members were made up of two from Monmouth, two from Sir Watkin Williams Wynn and the reserve was from Tanatside. Four riders of the six chosen are from Area 5, showing the strength of the discipline in our area, and further highlighting how well our riders and teams do when they qualify for Zone and the Championships.

The first International will take place at the Windsor Show in May, and we wish Eden and Skippy lots of luck.

Winter League Show Jumping Results – Waen y Llyn

WL collage 24.02.15

Class 1 was the toughest yet for the 7 members of the Flint & Denbigh Hunt PC who competed for us at Waen Y Llyn Wl at Northop last week. Everyone was very quiet as they walked the well-built solid spread and filler course, which proved to catch them all out. Out of 9 teams, only 2 teams and a handful of individuals weren’t eliminated in the first round, which included our youngest member of team 2, Harri Wyn-Wheway & Wilma. By the second round, some of the fillers were taken out, and the organizers decided then to work on the 2nd round for rosette presentation. There were no points for any Winter League team, but our 2nd team of Amelia Clemence & Frazer, Naomi Cobb & Shannon, and Harri Wyn-Wheway & Wilma were presented with 5th rosettes for a determined 2nd round by them all. No rosettes today for our Winter League team, but they are in a comfortable 2nd place in the league table, with only one competition to go.

Class 2, and the sixth win this season for our Winter League team of Jac Cernyw & Gorgeous George, Lois Williams & Jim, Hermione Williams & Spike and Tegan Houston & Solitaire.  The all rode strong and listened as a team,  Jac gaining individual 2nd, Tegan 4th and Hermoine 5th, all with lovely double clears.

Class 3, and our Winter League team were 4th, Georgia Jones & Simba, Emily Cummings & Mathedor, Harriet Williams & Flynn and Sali Wyn-Wheway & Toosie. No individuals for them, but both Emily & Georgia rode very nice double clears. Megan Woodcock was in a mixed team, and gained team 2nd and  a lovely double clear with individual 2nd; and Megan Allmand & Otto in a mixed team gained team 5th.

Class 4 and we had our first class 4 team!! They gained team 2nd for us, Brier Leahy & Kellen, Luci Roberts & Alfie,  Abi Cocking & Summerhill, and Megan Woodcock. Emily Cummings was also individual 3rd with her ride Sioux, Megan 4th and Brier individual 6th.

Thank you once again to Mal Toner on the thankless sheet scoring in classes 1 & 2. He stood in the cold for over 5 hours adding up all the scores for us.
