Cheshire Shield Horse Trials and Area 5 Qualifier: Sunday 6th July, Somerford Park Farm

Please find attached the Schedule and Entry Form for the above event.

This year’s competition not only includes the 2014 Area 5 qualifier but also sections for Riding Club members in all classes. It is therefore expected that the demand for places will be very high and entries will need  to be submitted as early as possible.

Pony Club Branches wishing to enter teams are able to leave team selection almost until the last minute. All riders/branches should submit entries for individuals by the closing date ofMonday 23rd June and team selection from those individual entries does not need to be notified (by email would be preferred) until Monday 30th June.

It is important, however, that all riders have entered by 23rd June, regardless of whether or not they are to be included in a team.

Please use a separate entry form for each rider/horse combination entry.

Parents’ Behaviour at Rallies

Now that the summer rallies are taking place, please could I remind parents that they must allow the rally organisers and instructors to do their roles without parents interference.

  • Parents are requested to observe from the sidelines and NOT shout commands to their child. The instructors are more than capable of teaching the members.
  • Rally organisers will have put the members in a group of the right standard and age. Please DO NOT try to move your child into another group or ride.
  • If you have any problems speak calmly to the organiser or instructor at the end of the session.
  • If you think that you can do a better job organising rallies please let me know as we are always needing volunteers.
  • Remember that the organisers give up a lot of their free time to organise and run these rallies.

Spectators and parents/carers

We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the sport This branch is supporting the Area’s Respect programme to ensure equestrianism can be enjoyed in a safe, positive environment.

Remember Pony Club organised events are a time for members to develop their technical, physical, tactical and social skills. Winning isn’t everything.

Play your part and observe the Area’s Respect Code of Conduct for spectators and parents/carers at all times

I will:

  • Remember that children and young people ride and compete for FUN.
  • Applaud effort and good play as well as success
  • Always Respect the officials’ decisions
  • Remain outside the arena and within the Designated Spectators’ Area (where provided) unless invited to do otherwise
  • Let the instructor do their job and not confuse the riders by telling them what to do
  • Encourage the riders to Respect other riders, judges, stewards and officials
  • Avoid criticising a rider for making a mistake – mistakes are part of learning
  • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour

I understand that if I do not follow the Code, any or all of the following actions may be taken by the Branch or Area:

I may be:

  • Issued with a verbal warning from a Branch or Area official
  • Required to meet with the Branch or Area committee
  • Obliged to leave the training or competition venue by the organiser or my branch
  • Requested by the branch not to attend future events
  • Suspended or have my child’s Pony Club membership removed
  • Required to leave the Branch along with any dependents
