Ty Uchaf, Caerwys, 20th April 2013
We had a fantastic turnout at the Mounted Games friendly, with 24 teams from other branches entered, as well as 5 F&D teams.
Senior Competition
F&D A: Becky Sedcole (Ghanni), Sam Owen (Solo), Alex Major (Midnight), Alys Williams (Honey)
F&D B: Charlotte Williams (Pebbles), Joe Owen (Nutmeg), Eden Greaves (Skippy and Blue), Sophie Greaves (Alex)
The senior B team had a few issues in the first couple of races, but qualified for the Farmers Market final. They then missed another couple of finals, before qualifying for the Pyramid final. They capitalised on a mistake made by the A team and finished in 3rd, a place above the F&D A team, which was probably the highlight of their competition! They missed the tyre final, but qualified for the 5 Flag final, where they finished 5th. They ended in 8th position with 15 points.
The senior A team had a great day. It took them until the last race – 5 Flag – to win a final, but they qualified for every final. They finished on 39 points, in joint 2nd place with Cheshire Hunt North, just 4 points behind the winners. All 4 team members performed flawlessly in the tie breaker, and secured their 2nd place position.
Senior Novice Competition
F&D: Jasmine Massey (Ricky), Heledd Roberts (Julianne), Lois Williams (Jim), Jac Cernyw (George)
The senior novice team had a few mistakes and were plagued by missed changeovers in most of the races. They had a mix of 3rd and 4th places, as well as a few 5th and 6th places. Like the senior A team, it took them until the 5 Flag to win a race, but they got there in the end! They finished in 6th place on 39 points.
Junior Competition
F&D: Rhys Cernyw (Lizzie), Owen Williams (Poppy), Orlagh Toner (Jemma), Alex Owen (Cassie), Jacob Edghill (Lielie)
The junior team made only a few mistakes throughout their competition but were competing against a lot of older children on faster ponies, so missed out on most of the finals. They qualified for the Old Sock and Farmers Market finals, and managed to get a couple of extra points there. They finished in 8th place with 10 points.
Junior Novice Competition
F&D: Katie Davies (Sadie), Ellie Richardson (Milly), Gwenan Roberts (Julianne), Twm Cernyw (Bobby)
Most of the junior novice team were competing in their first ever competition, and most are only just off the lead rein. They had a fantastic day and it was a great way to end such a successful friendly. They won two of their races, and finished overall in 3rd place with 24 points, just 3 points behind the winning team.
A huge congratulations to everyone who competed – you all did Flint & Denbigh proud. And thank you to everyone who helped out organising the event in the lead up and on the day – it could not happen without you. We have received lots of emails from other branches thanking us for such a well organised and pleasant event.
