It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Gwil Hughes sadly passed away yesterday. He had been battling cancer for some time and despite his illness had continued training the games team with the help of his daughter, Francesca.

Gwil had trained the games teams for over 20 years and had great pleasure in seeing the members being successful at area and at the zone competitions. He took the teams to all parts of the country and to the Royal Welsh Show and the Royal Show of England. The members that he trained have been chosen to represent Wales at Windsor & Ireland and also chosen to represent GB in this country and abroad.

He dedicated his time to the pony club and would be relied upon to help out setting up at camp, show jumping competitions, hunter trials and fun days.

Earlier this year Gwil was awarded the ‘Cubitt’ award. A very proud day for him and the Branch. This is a special award in recognition of long service and dedication to the Pony Club.

Our Branch will miss Gwil dearly, as there is no-one else that worked so hard for the Branch.

Our thoughts are with his family especially his daughter Fran.
