SUNDAY 1st JULY  2012 – SOMERFORD PARK FARM

Please find attached the Schedule and Entry Form for the above event. Apologies for the delay – there have been technical delays to contend with!

You will note that once again this year’s competition includes the 2012 Area 5 Horse Trials qualifier and it is therefore expected that the demand for places will be high. Please ensure, therefore, that your entries are submitted as early as possible. We have also included provision for a non-Pony Club section in each class and this is likely to increase the demand for places quite considerably.

All entries

Please use a separate entry form for each rider/horse combination entry . Those riders who will be entered in a Branch Team may either submit their entries through their appropriate branch representative or direct. However, all rider entries need to be submitted by MONDAY THE 18TH JUNE.

Team Entries

Pony Club Branches wishing to enter a team in Classes 1A, 2A or 3A but wanting to leave team selection until the last minute, should ensure that all their prospective team members have submitted, either directly or via the Branch, an entry form by the closing date of the 18th June (see above!). Notification of the membership of each team may then be in two stages:

Stage 1 – Notice of proposal to enter a team(s) without rider names by the 18th June (this is not essential but would be appreciated);

Stage 2 – Notice of the team members names by Monday the 25th June. (THIS IS ESSENTIAL!)

These notices do not need to be in any particular format but must be in writing – ideally by email – and clear enough for even me to understand.

Waiting List

As usual, a waiting list will operate for those Classes/Sections which are oversubscribed. The entry form enables you to opt in or out of the waiting list system.

Late entries

Late entries MAY be accepted at the absolute discretion of the organisers but a late entry fee of £10 WILL be charged.

Riding Club/BE members

Please note that since this is principally a Pony Club event, the Pony Club rules will apply and any competing RC/BE members should ensure that they are familiar with those rules as well as with the relevant PC  dressage test. All dressage tests are available to download from the Pony Club website. Most of the rules will follow BE precedent and the differences are, therefore, likely to be slight. Some concessions to the general competition rules have been made for RC/BE entrants however, notably:

  1. Hats do not need to be “tagged” but must nonetheless comply with current standards – they may be subject to tack check;
  2. Horses may be 4 years of age, Pony Club members are subject to a 5 year old rule.

I would also point out that cross country phase elimination rules may slightly differ since RC/BE may allow a rider to finish the course whereas the PC rules require a rider to retire after 4 refusals. It would not be feasible to amend this rule for some riders and therefore RC competitors are asked to respect the rule.

Finally, I would mention appearance at prize giving. Pony Club requires all its members to attend awards ceremonies in full riding gear with hat. I am sure that RC/BE members would not want to be outsmarted!

I cannot say at this stage how many RC entries we will be able to accept but you may rest assured we will do our best to accommodate as many as possible.

I do hope to be able to communicate with all competitors by email and keep them up-dated with event information from time to time, so please try to include a LEGIBLE email address. If you don’t have a personal email address, try to arrange to use that of a friend who will pass on news.

My apologies if you receive more than one of these notifications – I am using a number of different address lists.
